Initial Submission: please use simple text formatting and a legible font of at least 12 point size in a single column format. Pages, equations, figures and tables should be numbered sequentially. Figures and tables must also have captions. In the initial submission, figures and tables should appear in the body of the text. Figures may be submitted in black and white, grayscale, or color. The references should be gathered together after the end of text under the heading "References." Authors are required to supply complete information for references. Articles should be submitted as a single pdf file for first review, with figures inline rather than at the end of the document.
An example paper showing formatting is available: frExample.pdf as well as a latex template: FRtemplates.zip. Use of these templates are not required but will help speed up the final submission process.
Final Submission: Upon acceptance, authors will be required to submit figures and images separately. Submissions that use color are welcome, but all figures should be understandable by readers viewing or printing via monochrome devices. Figures can be printed in color in the hardcopy version at the cost of a printing charge. A more specific set of formatting is required for final submission:
The authors must submit a pdf file of the finished paper with figures inline. The final document should be in single column, double line spaced, format. Please also submit the source text file in MS Word or LaTeX. It is important that the LaTeX file be a single, monolithic file as opposed to multiple component files. The LaTex templates above can be used but please modify the template to produce double spacing in the final pdf. This is to help with the proofreading by the publisher.
All illustration files must be in TIFF, EPS (with preview), or Postscript (PS) formats and must be uploaded to Manuscript Central individually. You may upload a “zipped” file containing all of the image files. WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/) works well for creating a zip file. The zipped file must have a “.zip” suffix; .tar or .rar are not acceptable. Manuscript Central will “unpack” the archive automatically when you select the “unpack zip files” box, but you will need to confirm the “type” of each file uploaded.
It is important that you not use a period (“.”) in the file names ANYWHERE apart from immediately preceding the file type extension (i.e., fig2a.eps is fine, but 06-0100.R1.fig2a.eps will not be recognized as a valid file type by Manuscript Central).
Please note that all submissions are required to use SI (metric) units.
